Visual Studio.Net 2005 Launch Show in Lahore, Pakistan

Visual Studio.Net 2005 Launch in Lahore

I am preparing my self to go at the VS.Net 2005 Launch show at Avari International Hotel Lahore. Microsoft has done great to show up here because a lot of people like us were looking towards Microsoft for the launch in Pakistan so that we can see the new things that came with the the original version. I am expecting a huge response from Lahore because the event was hugely anticipated by the developers.

I am attending MSDN event for VS.Net and Smart client and I will be blogging from the event as the day passes by. I will try to post them here on the evening. I also get information from Microsoft site that a lucky winner will also get X-Box 360 for free. That is a hell of a gift for attending this show.

So lets hope that the event goes well here in Lahore and we put some effort to show Microsoft that we will never be ignored again in any event in future.

Project Server 2003 on SQL Server 2005

We have been running project server on SQL server 2000 for a while now and ever since Yukon/SQL Server 2005 arrives and I hope many of you already has the DVD or waiting to get one so here are the steps to install Project server 2003 on SQL Server 2005. This is not recommended by Microsoft so you can do it for testing purpose only.

  1. Rather than running Project Server setup, copy the following folder to your hard drive from the Project Server CD: Support\Database.
  2. Using Notepad, open the file called WEBSPS.SQL. Change the following line numbers (CTRL-G) will get you to the appropriate line number. Add the text in bold.
    1. Line 8781: select WASSN_ID from MSP_WEB_ASSIGNMENTS WAT2 WITH (index…
    2. Line 19456: select WASSN_ID from MSP_WEB_ASSIGNMENTS WA WITH (index …
    3. Line 26315: select WASSN_ID from MSP_WEB_ASSIGNMENTS WAT2 WITH (index…
  3. Save the file and go to a command prompt. Go to the DATABASE folder you copied earlier that contains the file you just edited. We are going to create a new Project Server database instead of having Project Server setup create it. Type the following command (this will take awhile). Replace “LOCALHOST“ with the SQL Server name. Replace “sapassword“ with the password for the SQL Server administrator.
    1. E:\Programs\Project Server 2003\SUPPORT\DATABASE FOR SQL 2005>SETUPDB.CMD LOCALHOST ProjectServer sa sapassword
  4. Connect to the SQL Enterprise Manager (or the SQL Server Management Studio, as it is now called). If they do not exist, create two SQL Server Security Login accounts. If the users were created, edit the accounts and make the same changes as listed below:
    1. MSProjectServerUser – Type a password you will remember; Set the default database to “ProjectServer“; User Mapping = ProjectServer, MSProjectServerRole.
    2. MSProjectUser – Type a password you will remember; Set the default database to “ProjectServer“; User Mapping = ProjectServer, MSProjectRole.
  5. Run Project Server setup and follow the appropriate steps, selecting the option to connect to an existing database.
  6. Once setup is complete, you should be able to access Project Server.

Questions and feedback is welcome.
