Migration Project Completed

Finally I am back to normal after 2.5 month of complete madness.  The SharePoint Server 2007 Migration project that I was doing for one of our client is completed on Tuesday morning.  The project involves Upgrading SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to MOSS 2007.  The length of the project was very much shrink from 5 months to 2.5 months just to get the next Project (Phase II) … Business deal.  Below are the details are the project that we completed.

Content Database Size : 26 GB

Custom SharePoint Server Templates : 20

Custom Lists and Library Features : 15

Upgrade Definition Files :20

A complete UI Upgrade to SharePoint 2007 Master Pages and CSS

Extensive use of SharePoint 2003 Issue Discussion (Migrated through Object Model)

20+ Custom Webparts completely re-developed

4 Custom Layouts

We had used Side by Side upgrade approach for this project.  The bad thing about SharePoint 2007 migration is that we can not predict that Migration can go smoothly without any issue.  If at some point migration fails you have to go back revert the site and have to come back again Which is some times time taken and very disturbing.  We got 48 hours windows of Server downtime which we successfully managed and completed the project.  From last two days we have not got any issue or help desk request from the end users.

I have learned a lot from this project and will try to share my experience.
