Riyadh SharePoint User Group – February 2010 Highlights

I am bit late here because I was unable to update any thing on the Riyadh SharePoint User Group Event that was concluded on 18th of February 2010.  The event was titled “SharePoint 2010 Deep dive”.  I don’t need to say that the event was more than successful because the images that I will put in the blog will show the success of THE “SharePoint” community in Saudi Arabia.  Out of 300 Registered people we got around 140 people on the day.  Just about the capacity because we didn’t had any single seat available for the event. 

For the first time we recorded the complete session using the community camera.  The Videos will be available very soon.


Jerry Yasir – RSUG Founder, President, SharePoint Consultant at EJADA

Jerry is Founder and President of Riyadh SharePoint User Group (RSUG.NET), Co-Owner of SharePoint Pakistan User Group and SharePoint Consultant at EJADA, Saudi Arabia. He hold a master degree in Computer Sciences and has nearly 8 Years of experience working in Microsoft Technologies including SharePoint, Microsoft .NET and Project Server.

He is currently responsible of executing and managing many large scale SharePoint implementations in Saudi Arabia. Jerry is Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and also holds MCPD, MCTS WSS 3.0 & SharePoint Server 2007, MCITP (EPM 2007) and MCSD.NET.

Yaseen Rahhal – RSUG Board Member and Technical Manager Sure Technologies

Yaseen Rahhal, Technical Manager at Sure Consulting & Technology, he is an IT Professional focused on Web technologies and enterprise portal solutions. Rahhal is expert in deploying SharePoint solution as he participated in the major SharePoint 2007 Projects in the region, and he is board member of Riyadh SharePoint Users Group “RSUG”.

Ahmed Abuabdou – RSUG Board Member & Consultant – Sure Technologies

Ahmed Abuabdou, Senior Software Engineer & SharePoint Developer at SURE Technology & Consulting, he enjoys exploring new operating systems, platforms, technologies and programming languages, and considers programming as a hobby. He has been involved with big e-learning SharePoint portals in Saudi-Arabia and is an active member in RSUG.

Event Agenda

SharePoint 2010 Overview (Yaseen) – 1 Hour

Yaseen will repeat his session from GDC which became the most popular track.  He will provide an overview of What is new in SharePoint Developers for Administrator, End Users, Developers and Architects.

SharePoint 2010 Lists What everyone Needs to Know – Ahmed – 45 Minutes

Ahmed will provide an overview on What’s new for End Users and Developers inside Lists and Libraries.  He will provide some live demos on how to use Lists and Libraries, Throttling, Relationships etc.

Break and Fun Zone – 30 Minutes

Tea and Snacks will be served with some games and chit chat for fun.

SharePoint 2010 Architecture & Administration – Jerry – 1 Hour

SharePoint 2010 brings major change in the Architecture and administration.  In this session Jerry will provide an overview of what are the new changes and concepts including new Service Application Model, Multi Tenency, Powershell Integration etc.

Developing Apps with Visual Studio Tools for SharePoint – Jerry – 40 Minutes

Jerry will provide an overview of Visual Studio Tools and do a Live demo on how we can build a collaborative application as quickly as possible using Visual Studio Tools for SharePoint.

The event was all  about SharePoint 2010.  Starting from Introduction to SharePoint 2010 which was done by Yaseen Rahhal from Sure Technologies followed by SharePoint Lists what’s new session done by Mr. Ahmed Abuabdu.  Later I took over on SharePoint Administration and Architecture session.  The event last for 5 hours and was full of cheers and questions.  People asked many questions about Development, upgrade and architecture. 

I Talked about what’s new in Administration and architecture mostly about Service Application Model, the new hardware requirements, best practice Analyzer, Central Administration and list throttling.  All the session including mine went really well and people liked it allot.  At the end draws were made for the gifts including Xbox.
